Call of Duty Black Ops 1 Zombies Verruckt

Call Of Duty Zombies has had years of new mechanics. Almost every map in the entire series has introduced something new to the format, from the earliest DLC map of Verruckt to the recent Outbreak in Black Ops Cold War.

There are many gimmicks that these maps have introduced. In some cases, they've become staples of the series. In others, they never made an appearance outside of their premiere map. Sometimes, these gimmicks deserve to be left in the past. However, some of these mechanics were incredibly fun, and deserve to see a full return for the Black Ops Cold War rendition of Zombies.

10 Should Return: Hacker Device

The Hacker Device has only had one appearance on Black Ops 1's Moon (and its Black Ops 3 remaster). It was unique and could do a whole lot of things. The Hacker Device could change drops into other ones, open doors at a deep discount, and even re-roll the Mystery Box.

There was so much it could do, and that's what made it so fun to use. The downside to it being on Moon is that if you used the Hacker Device, you couldn't use space suits which were practically required on Moon. If it returned, the Hacker Device could really shine.

9 Shouldn't Return: Planting

Planting has only appeared in Zetsubou No Shima, and it should stay there. It was a cool mechanic on paper, however, it was far too complicated for its own good. There were three different kinds of waters that could be used on plants, all with different effects depending on the combinations used.

It was just too complicated to have a farming minigame in the middle of fighting the zombie horde. In the later rounds, it becomes even harder of a task, and with super sprinters in Cold War, it would prove to be impossible.

8 Should Return: Golden Pack-A-Punch

The mechanics of Black Ops 4 made Pack-A-Punching a chore. In order to get your gun to output the most damage possible, it was required to Pack-A-Punch it five separate times. It was a huge grind. However, on Tag Der Toten, the Golden Pack-A-Punch was introduced, which would completely Pack-A-Punch your weapon to the highest quality possible.

With how expensive things are in Cold War, having Golden Pack-A-Punch make a return would be incredibly welcomed. It would take out some of the more grindy aspects of Zombies so you can cut to the chase when it comes to destroying the horde.

7 Shouldn't Return: Starting Separately

On some Zombies maps, in co-op games, players wouldn't start together, instead be separated on opposite sides of the map until the power came on. It's only appeared on two maps, Verruckt and Dead Of The Night. These are both difficult maps, however, this gimmick was always nothing more than a nuisance.

While it spiced up gameplay when it first came out, as Zombies evolved it became more and more unappealing. It's a cooperative game by nature, so tossing you into a solo setting worked against what Zombies should be.

6 Should Return: Specialty Bullets

Not to be confused with Ammo Mods, Specialty Bullets were something that's only ever appeared on Black Ops 4's Dead Of The Night with Silver Bullets. Specialty Bullets had to be crafted and would do more damage to the Boss Zombies on the map, werewolves.

With how much health Boss Zombies have in Cold War, having something to build that helps to take them out easier would be welcomed. Where it stands now, Ring Of Fire is practically required to run for high rounds, since it's the only way to deal damage to Boss Zombies quick enough before they down you.

5 Shouldn't Return: Elevators

Elevators appeared on a few maps, and the maps they did appear on were generally among the weaker ones. The issue with elevators is how much they slow the flow of a game down. Having to wait around for elevators was never fun, and would lead to separation from your teammates if not careful.

On a map like Die Rise, if you missed an elevator then there was practically no way to get to your teammates. On Five, it made getting around the map harder, potentially to the point of it being a lethal mistake if you tried to go between rounds.

4 Should Return: Dig Sites

Technically dig sites appeared on Cold War's Firebase Z, however, only as part of the main Easter egg quest. The mechanics of dig sites on Origins would be fantastic to return. There, anything could come out from the ground, ranging from a free Perk to a zombie.

There aren't many other things to do on Cold War zombies outside of killing zombies. Dig sites fit into the Cold War aesthetic, and the base is already there from Firebase Z. If expanded upon, dig sites could become a solid staple of the Cold War Zombies experience.

3 Shouldn't Return: Beast Mode

Beast Mode was a mechanic that appeared on Black Ops 3's Shadows Of Evil (which in turn was a spinoff on Mob Of The Dead's Afterlife). By going to an altar, it would temporarily turn you into a beast that could melee zombies, zap electricity, and swing around.

However, something like this wouldn't fit in Cold War Zombies. Cold War's rendition is a lot more grounded to reality compared to previous entries, so turning into a giant monster wouldn't make sense thematically. Beast Mode is something that works fantastically in the map its in, but wouldn't fit in elsewhere.

2 Should Return: Specialists

Specialists were introduced in Black Ops 3, with each map having a unique one. They returned in Black Ops 4, albeit you had a choice of four different ones to choose from. However, in Cold War, they were traded off for Field Upgrades.

Specialists returning with how they were in Black Ops 3 would help to give new maps more identity, something that Black Ops 3 thrived on. They were incredibly fun to use, but far from broken. Specialists would make the perfect bow on top of the already fantastic Cold War Zombies mode.

1 Shouldn't Return: Bank

The Bank system was one that was only ever on TranZit, Die Rise, and Buried. This Victis exclusive mechanic led to making every run of Zombies incredibly easy. You could overload the bank with points to the point that you never even had to lay a finger on a zombie to open up the entire map.

While it gets rid of the setting up process, it takes away almost all of the challenge of early rounds. Cold War Zombies is already on the easier side, so by adding a mechanic like the Bank it would make it almost too easy.
